Practical Elegance. From Maine.
Back Cove Yachts is a sister company to Sabre Yachts. Together they form the largest recreational boatbuilding operation in the state of Maine. This region has a long and proud maritime history, dating back to 1607 when America’s first ships were built along the shores of the Kennebec River. Today, that legacy of seaworthy design and skilled craftsmanship continues in every Back Cove boat.
In 2003, Back Cove Yachts was created in response to growing demand for a smaller, more efficient Downeast-style cruising boat. At the time, owners were drawn to the timeless look of the Maine lobster boat but wanted modern comfort, proven reliability, and the simplicity of a single diesel engine. As a result, the Back Cove 29 was launched—marking not only the debut of a new model, but the beginning of a new brand.
An Evolving Lineup of Boats
Following the success of the 29, the Back Cove lineup expanded steadily. Models such as the Back Cove 26, 30, 33, 34, and 37 were introduced, each building on the same core principles: classic New England styling, fuel-efficient performance, and practical, owner-friendly layouts. Over time, these qualities earned Back Cove a loyal following and a strong reputation worldwide.
Today, more than 500 Back Cove yachts are cruising across the globe. They can be found in harbors from Greece and Norway to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. At the same time, Back Cove boats are widely used throughout the United States, where they operate confidently in nearly every type of water—from coastal passages to inland lakes and rivers.
All Back Cove yachts are built by a dedicated team of approximately 100 skilled Maine boatbuilders in a modern, 240,000-square-foot facility in Rockland, Maine. Their pride in craftsmanship and attention to detail result in dependable, low-maintenance yachts designed for real-world use.
As a result, Back Cove boats are especially well suited for Great Lakes cruising, where efficiency, range, and build quality are essential. As a Great Lakes boat brokerage serving Upstate New York, Ohio, and Ontario, we help buyers select the right Back Cove yacht with expert guidance, regional knowledge, and personalized service.
