Beneteau First 36

Overview

The Beneteau First 36 is designed to combine high-tech racing technology with the features of popular racer-cruisers. Even the standard version of the First 36 can plane in a moderate breeze. However, this wasn’t the biggest challenge for the design and production teams. For over 40 years, the First series has been known for balancing comfort, performance, practicality, elegance, high-tech construction, and an affordable price. The First 36 continues this tradition.

DESIGNED FOR SAILORS

The design team is led by Kristian Hajnšek, the CTO of Seascape. He works closely with the team at Beneteau to bring racing-grade construction technologies to the world of production racer-cruisers. On top of this experienced team, a group of passionate international designers was added to help shape the boat. All of these designers are sailors themselves, bringing real-world sailing experience to the design process.

RACING LAYOUT

In the racing layout, the cockpit is wide and modern, allowing for different positions for the helm and trim. This makes the boat easy to sail whether you’re on a short-handed crew or a full crew. In this setup, the table and bench extensions are removed, opening up more space in the cockpit for working.

The steering wheel is higher than usual, leaving enough room for the helmsman to move forward toward the mainsail winch when sailing with fewer people. The winches in the cockpit are positioned so that one or two crew members can sail with their legs in and operate the mainsail or primary winches when the boat is fully crewed. It also makes it easy to cross-sheet all the sails to the windward side. The Beneteau First 36 uses top-quality deck gear from Harken, Ronstan, Spinlock, and Antal, ensuring excellent performance.

CRUISING LAYOUT

When you switch from racing to cruising with family or day sailing, the First 36 cockpit becomes even more comfortable. The cockpit benches have cushions, increasing seating space. They also provide storage and better organization for lines. The cockpit table is big enough to seat a crew of six comfortably.

Additionally, the design team added a lightweight bathing platform, which makes it easier to access the water without affecting the boat’s performance.

LARGEST LIVING SPACE IN ITS CLASS

The First 36 has a wide hull that creates a surprisingly spacious interior. In fact, the living space inside is similar to that of much larger boats, like the legendary First 40.7.

The interior of the Beneteau First 36 is simple, comfortable, and versatile, with a three-cabin cruising layout. One of the standout features is the large central fridge with a removable cutting board, making the galley the largest in its class. The layout also includes a wide corridor, with a foldable and removable table, allowing sailors to move easily around the saloon and offering extra storage space.

In contrast to many boats, the First 36 includes a full-sized navigation table. This table is not only essential for navigation but also works well as a home office. Two portlights in each cabin allow for great airflow and natural light, while the sectional indirect lighting with a red racing option provides nighttime illumination. The three cabins feature full-sized double berths, and the innovative heads add to the boat’s bright and spacious interior.

In conclusion, the Beneteau First 36 offers an ideal balance of high-tech performance and luxurious comfort. It’s a great choice for both racers and cruisers who want the best of both worlds.
