Already a classic sailboat, the Tartan 28 underwent a redesign in the 1990’s to create a more contemporary cruising platform that integrated modern design elements but which kept the sailing qualities for which Tartan was always known. A new beavertail bulb keel, larger rudder, and modernized rig design resulted in the Tartan 28 Piper, a modern take on a Tartan classic! Built from solid, hand-laid fiberglass below the waterline, and balsa-cored sections in the deck, the boat is stiff, rugged, and lighter than its predecessor, giving her better light air sailing characteristics and responsive club racing capabilities. In addition, she makes for a comfortable coastal cruiser or weekender, all in a package that is easy to sail, dock, and maintain.

Clean and well cared for by her owners, Gloria is an excellent example of the Tartan 28 Piper. The first impression one gets is that she looks like a fun boat to sail! A modest size and balanced sail plan won’t require much crew to get moving, and the cockpit is comfortable and safe, with great visibility all around. 

Belowdecks, the interior is warm and inviting, with rich teak joinery throughout. The accommodations are comfortable and practical, with a pilot berth to starboard, and a V-berth forward. The main salon features a settee with a fold-down table, a navigation station with a proper chart table, and a U-shaped galley.
